Jack McInerney, a 17 year old forward from Alpharetta, GA, joins Philadelphia Union from Cobb Futbol Club and the U-17 USMNT as the #7 overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft.
McInerney appeared in all four games for the U.S. in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup, scoring two goals and helping the squad to the Round of 16.
In April of 2009 at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Tijuana, Mexico, McInerney's lights-out play on offense led the Americans to convincing wins over Cuba, Canada and Honduras. McInerney evolved into one of U-17 coach Wilmer Cabrera's most reliable and consistent players. McInerney opened the CONCACAF tournament with two goals and two assists in a 5-0 win over Cuba. Then he scored the first two goals of the game in a 4-2 victory against Canada and had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win versus Honduras.
McInerney was a member of the U.S. Soccer U-17 Residency program since the Fall of 2007.
McInerney is a Generation adidas signee, giving Philadelphia Union three draft picks who don’t count against the club’s salary cap. |
